I am not normally a big concert person, but somehow I went to over five different concerts this past year! First, I saw Passion Pit, which is a band I grew up listening to with my family and have known since I was a kid. I also saw The Killers, another band that has been a part of my family’s music for a long time. Then, I went to see Malcolm Todd with my roommate, which was especially fun because he has a song called “Roommates.” I also went to ACL, where I got to see Passion Pit again along with other artists I like, including Gigi Perez and The Dare. When I was in London I got to see Olivia Rodrigo at Hyde Park and she brought out Ed Sheeran! It was great! Finally, and most importantly, I got to see James Marriott, who is my favorite musical artist ever! He is normally based in the UK, so when I found out he was coming to San Antonio, I knew I had to go. It is the only concert I have ever cried at, and without a doubt, it has been my favorite concert I have ever been to.
I did theater all throughout middle school and high school and so I've always been really into musical theater. The singing, costumes and set are all so cool to see brought to life. The first musical I ever saw was Hamilton, which is still one of my all-time favorites, even though, yes, I know that is a pretty basic answer! I mean, it is popular for a reason. Since then, I have seen Beetlejuice, Moulin Rouge! The Musical on Broadway, Dear Evan Hansen, Mean Girls twice, and Wicked in London. Even after seeing all of those, Hamilton is still my favorite musical, and I think it will be pretty hard for anything to take its place.
My favorite artist for the past few years has been James Marriott! He is a UK-based artist who I originally discovered through YouTube, since he is also a YouTuber. His music quickly became something I really connected with, so getting to see him live was one of the greatest music experiences I have ever had. Another one of my favorite artists is Arctic Monkeys, and I actually have a poster of their lead singer, Alex Turner, hanging in my room! There is something about their music that ignites a flame in my soul in a way that no other artist has been able to. Lastly, one of my current favorites is Malcolm Todd, who I got to see in concert this past year. He recently released a cover of “Dancing On My Own” for a Gap campaign, and I have been listening to it nonstop!
